renato nicolini, cardinali

(…) we can say that ‘cardinal’s portraits’ is one of the Renaissance art. Delogu has cleverly introduced this theme, which is a classic of art history, into the history of photography, taking advantage of an ever-widening gap that has opened up in the relationship between ‘photography’ and ‘truth’. The instant decisif might be impossible in a world that seems to be continuously under the invisible eye of the television camera, at least in the fears of our imagination. Photography, then, goes back to being as it was at the moment of its birth – the preparation of the subject and of the surround, in other words ‘the pose’. But is this still possible now that we are all more or less consciously always ‘posing’? if this is the game, then photography can vie with all the repertoire accumulated in art history, ‘cardinals’ included.
